How to Care for Youth Fleece & Technical Riding Apparel

Early lessons, pony club days and afternoons at the stables can mean plenty of washing. A simple care routine helps take the guesswork out of looking after riding clothes.

The key is to check each garment’s care label rather than treating every piece the same. Here’s a practical guide based on the care instructions for Grand Parade riding apparel.

Fleece jackets: cold wash, inside out, dry flat

The Alpine Crop Fleece Jacket is designed for youth riders, with lightweight warmth and a cropped shape for layering around riding days.

Its care routine is straightforward:

  • Use a cold, gentle machine wash.
  • Turn the jacket inside out before washing.
  • Avoid fabric softeners to maintain the fleece texture.
  • Do not tumble dry.
  • Dry flat in the shade.

For young riders helping with their own washing, remember: inside out, cold and gentle, then flat in the shade.

Core and Technical training tops: keep the wash cold

The Core Youth Training Top – Long Sleeve and Technical Youth Training Top – Long Sleeve both feature lightweight, breathable performance fabric with soft stretch for ease of movement. The Technical top also has mesh side panels, while both offer a streamlined fit for layering under jackets or vests.

Both tops are machine washable, with a cold wash recommended. That makes cold washing a simple starting point after lessons, training or stable days.

For drying and any additional care requirements, follow the label on your individual top. Don’t assume the fleece jacket’s flat-drying instructions apply to your training tops too.

Technical breeches: follow their own instructions

The Core Breech features four-way-stretch performance fabric for freedom of movement in the saddle.

Its product care instructions recommend a cold machine wash and line drying. Give breeches their own care check rather than assuming the fleece jacket’s drying instructions apply to them too.

If your riding apparel has grip panels, check the garment’s care label for grip-specific instructions before washing or treating that area. The Core Breech record reviewed for this guide does not specify grip panels or grip-care instructions, so we haven’t added a grip treatment recommendation.

An easy routine for riding families

Before starting the washing machine, check which pieces need flat drying and which can go on the line. The Alpine fleece needs a flat spot in the shade; the Core Breech needs line drying; and the Club Track Pant needs line drying in the shade.

Keeping those differences in mind makes wash day simpler, whether you’re a young rider learning to care for your own kit or a parent sorting the laundry after pony club.

Always follow the care label on your individual garment.
